The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and progressive leader who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the mission and ministry of Catholic education. The effective date of appointment is July 1, 2024, or another mutually agreeable date to be negotiated in consultation with the Board.

The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board Is situated in the heart of the Great Lakes operating in the communities of Blind River, Chapleau, Elliot Lake, Espanola, Hornepayne, Massey, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, and White River. Comprised of 16 elementary schools, one secondary school and one alternative learning centre, HSCDSB serves nearly 5,000 students annually with over 1,048 dedicated staff and has an operating budget of $92 million. Its central office, the Mount St. Joseph Catholic Education Centre is located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Director of Education will lead a system dedicated to excellence in education and living the values of Jesus Christ. The new Director of Education will continue to implement the board’s 2021 -2025 strategic plan, which focuses on the Success and Well-Being of our Students, Nurturing of our Catholic Faith, Engagement with our Employees and Partners, and Equitable Stewardship of our Resources.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to Gospel values and the teachings of Christ and the Catholic Church. The individual will bring an outstanding record of achievement in progressively senior leadership positions, coupled with an inspiring and genuine leadership approach that fosters confidence in others to take the lead and promotes a culture centred on trust, accountability, and excellence.

Key attributes and skills include: able to collaborate and build strong relationships and partnerships with stakeholders; demonstrates transparency and frequency of communication while implementing change and creating organizational direction; has business and financial acumen; familiarity with the education funding model;, possesses strength in critical thinking, problem solving and decision making; political acuity; and is a people-focused leader who displays a visible presence throughout the system.

Educational requirements include a Master of Education Degree, Ontario Teacher Certification, and Ontario Supervisory Officer Qualifications.
