Director of Education and Secretary to the Board

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario is seeking a dynamic, visionary, progressive and collaborative leader who has demonstrated commitment to providing quality, Catholic Education to students, parents and staff. The effective date for the appointment is January 3, 2022.

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario serves eight (8) counties in the region including Lanark, Leeds, Grenville, Dundas, Stormont, Glengarry, Prescott and Russell Counties. The Board’s jurisdiction covers an area of 12,165 square kilometres and includes 39 elementary and 10 secondary schools, including adult and alternative education programs. The Board provides Catholic education to more than 13,000 students and employs approximately 1,500 teachers and support staff.

The Director of Education reports to seven (7) Trustees and one (1) Student Trustee. As per the Education Act, the Director of Education serves as the Secretary of the Board.

The Board of Trustees are seeking an individual with a proven track record of results combining Supervisory Officer papers with a Master’s degree and leadership experience working within the public education sector, with demonstrated acumen in financial accountability in a medium to large organization. The individual should have demonstrated outstanding leadership at the local and provincial level. The Director should have excellent communication skills and have demonstrated a commitment to the Gospel values and the teachings of Christ and the Catholic Church.

A highly collaborative, inclusive decision-maker and a confident servant leader, you are clear, open, responsive and empowering, recognized for your high emotional intelligence, integrity and visibility, and your ability to listen to, engage with, and leverage the diverse perspectives of trustees, educators, support staff, students, parents and community leaders. You are equally known for building staff capacity by providing opportunities and strong mentorship, and for gaining the respect of various stakeholders through empathetic, consistent leadership.

The Director of Education will work to create a common understanding of purpose, unifying the Board, as well as implementing the 2020-2025 strategic plan to meet the evolving learning needs of CDSBEO. In this key role, you will lead governance practices by working with, and supporting, the Board of Trustees in an open, transparent and trusted relationship. You will evaluate and optimize the allocation of resources across the Board to maintain financial stability.

Informed by experience and practice, you are an assured manager of change, able to strengthen, inspire and motivate the senior management team, and build capacity through focused instructional intervention and family engagement.
