Manager: Finance & Budget, York CDSB
The York Catholic District School Board is seeking an experienced and proven financial leader to assume the role of Manager: Finance & Budget.
The York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) is one of the top-performing school boards in Ontario and one of the largest Catholic school boards in the province. Located in one of the fastest growing areas in North America, the Regional Municipality of York, in the Greater Toronto Area, the Board serves the Region’s nine municipalities (Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Whitchurch-Stouffville, and King Township).
Recognized as innovative, collaborative and fiscally responsible, the York Catholic District School Board provides a distinctive Catholic education to more than 53,000 students. With an operating budget in excess of $611 million, the Board operates 101 schools (85 elementary and 16 secondary schools) and employs more than 8,000 staff, which translates into a complex and challenging mandate for the new Manager: Finance & Budget (Manager).
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of the Board, the Manager provides strategic financial leadership and planning of the Board’s budget activities. The Manager is a key leadership position within the YCDSB and sets a high standard of supervision and oversight, leading a team of professionals responsible for budget and financial reporting.
In collaboration with various departments and Senior Administration, the Manager will;
* provide oversight of the Board’s annual and multi-year operating and capital budgets.
* manage and provide leadership in the development and monitoring of the Board’s budget (preparation, analysis, forecasts, presentations and Ministry reporting).
* facilitate the maintenance of accurate and up to date financial records.
* actively participate in the development and implementation of sound financial management and control parameters mandated by the Ministry of Education and the Board.
* ensure compliance with the Ministry of Education, the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) and other regulatory financial reporting requirements and timelines.
The ideal candidate will possess, a relevant post-secondary degree in Finance, Business, Accounting or equivalent and a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA or equivalent). The candidate will bring at least seven years of successful experience in business administration, preferably in the education sector or a broader public sector organization.
The Manager will support the values of the YCDSB and will be a demonstrated leader who will work effectively in a collaborative decision-making environment. They will possess excellent interpersonal, communication and management skills and demonstrate the ability to build, motivate and inspire a team of professionals. The Manager will possess strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills and will meet tight timelines while balancing multiple demands from various stakeholders.
