Superintendent of Education

 

YCDSB Position Summary:

The Superintendent of Education will report to the Director of Education and provide board-wide leadership in the strategic planning, development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement to produce the most enabling learning environment for students at York Catholic District School Board. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the YCDSB Indigenous Education portfolio, act as a liaison with our First Nations, Métis, and Inuit partners, and oversee strategic leadership for a variety of system priority portfolios.

YCDSB Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Catholic education is being promoted and celebrated throughout the Board.
  • Through collaboration with the Senior Strategic Leadership Team, implement Ministry of Education policies, guidelines, standards, initiatives and mandates.
  • Exercise leadership in the development, implementation, review and refinement of equitable accountable programs and services that support the Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan.
  • Provide significant input into the Board’s Equity and accountability plan, by defining equity priorities and outcome measures.
  • Manage, motivate and lead a team of educational professionals to provide an inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Participate in the development of the Board’s policies, programs and strategic plans through various Councils and committee meetings to review educational goals and objectives.
  • Establish and maintain constructive communication and effective working relationships with various internal and external partners, as well as establish partnerships with community agencies.
  • Support the development and deployment of anti-racism and anti-oppression programs within the York Catholic District School Board, at the CEC and within schools.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Part III of the Religious Education Course (equivalency or commitment to completion of same or another approved program (ex. The Catholic Leadership Program offered at St. Michael’s University of Toronto).
  • Positive recommendations from the appropriate Supervisory Officer.
  • Completion of Ontario Supervisory Officer Qualifications. Candidates without a Supervisory Officer Certificate may be considered in accordance with Ontario Regulation 309 (Supervisory Officers) made under the Education Act.
  • A Master’s degree that is an acceptable university degree (M.Ed. or M.A.).
  • A minimum of thirteen years of successful experience in education, with seven years in a permanent teaching position, a minimum of one year in the role of Vice Principal and five years in the position of Principal.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • A participating member of a Catholic worshiping community as attested by a parish priest.
  • A candidate with knowledge and experience working with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities, partners, and advocates. A champion of change that will leverage lived and professional experiences to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion and anti-oppression education as outlined in the Ontario Curriculum.
  • Outstanding leadership skills, demonstrated in a variety of positions of responsibility.
  • A clear understanding of the Board’s Strategic Plan, Mission/Vision Statements, and Values.
  • Has an awareness and an understanding in the application of culturally responsive and relevant pedagogy in the development of curriculum.
  • Ability to lead a diverse, inclusive, and high performing team, displays courageous leadership and ability to drive accountability.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding in the application of education theory, principles and practices to support the needs of all learners.
  • A high degree of integrity and demonstrated experience communicating complex and sensitive information to various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve student achievement, equity and well-being.
  • Qualifications/training in anti-racism /oppression/ CRRP/human rights and equity
  • Superior interpersonal, communications and political acumen skills.
  • Has a demonstrated track record of successful program delivery.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency in delivery of services to students and parent communities.

The primary work location will be the YCDSB Catholic Education Centre and travel on a regular basis throughout the district will be required.
