The Board of Trustees is seeking an exceptional Catholic leader to serve as the next Director of Education & Secretary-Treasurer to the Board.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Director of Education serves as the system’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief Education Officer, responsible for the organization’s strategic and operational leadership.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Director of Education will lead the organization toward the successful implementation of our three strategic directions:
- TO KNOW: Achievement of learning outcomes in core academic skills
- TO INSPIRE: Student faith, engagement & well-being
- TO EMPOWER: Preparation of students for future success
This is a critical leadership role requiring a visionary who can inspire confidence, cultivate strong relationships, and champion excellence, equity, and well-being across the district.
The Director will work collaboratively with trustees, senior administration, staff, families, parishes, and community partners to ensure that every student is supported to achieve their full potential within a faith-filled Catholic learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Director of Education will provide system leadership across all aspects of the organization, including:
Strategic Leadership
- Implement the Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan and operational priorities.
- Provide visionary leadership aligned with the mission of Catholic education.
- Lead system planning and continuous improvement using evidence-informed practices.
Catholic Leadership
- Promote and strengthen the Catholic identity of the school system.
- Foster meaningful partnerships with parishes, clergy, and Catholic organizations.
- Model faith-centred leadership and support faith formation across the system.
Student Achievement and Well-Being
- Champion high expectations for all learners and ensure equitable access to programs and supports.
- Promote instructional excellence and innovation in teaching and learning.
- Support initiatives that enhance mental health, belonging, and student engagement.
Organizational Leadership
- Lead and support a high-performing senior administrative team.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, trust, and continuous improvement.
- Provide effective oversight of human resources, labour relations, and organizational development.
Fiscal Stewardship
- Ensure responsible financial management and alignment of resources with strategic priorities.
- Oversee budget planning and financial accountability in accordance with Ministry requirements.
Governance and Accountability
- Maintain a strong, collaborative governance relationship with the Board of Trustees.
- Provide clear reporting and transparency regarding system performance and priorities.
Community Engagement
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships with families, community partners, municipalities, and Indigenous communities.
- Represent the Board with provincial partners, educational organizations, and the Ministry of Education.
Qualifications and Experience Required
The successful candidate will bring a strong combination of educational leadership, Catholic faith commitment, and system-level experience.
Required qualifications include:
- Practicing Catholic with a demonstrated commitment to the mission and ministry of Catholic education
- Ontario Supervisory Officer’s Certificate or eligibility in accordance with Ontario Regulation 176/10
- Extensive leadership experience within a large and complex educational organization
- Demonstrated success at the superintendent level or equivalent senior leadership role
- Strong understanding of Ontario education legislation, policy, and governance
- Proven experience in strategic planning, fiscal management, and system leadership
- Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and student well-being
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills
Candidates must also be able to demonstrate:
- Experience leading system-wide improvement initiatives
- The ability to manage complex organizations and competing priorities
- Success in fostering strong and effective teams
