Superior North Catholic District School Board is seeking a faithful, dynamic, and visionary leader to fill the pivotal role of Director of Education. This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly qualified and experienced individual to shape the future of Catholic education in our diverse, geographically expansive region of Northwestern Ontario.

Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the Director of Education is the Chief Executive Officer and Educational Leader of the school board. This role is responsible for the overall strategic direction, fiscal and operational management, and educational leadership of the board, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, equitable, and publicly funded Catholic education to all students. The Director of Education will champion the board’s mission and values, foster strong relationships with stakeholders, and advocate for the needs of our students and staff, while upholding the distinctiveness of Catholic education.

Our Board is deeply committed to Indigenous education, equity, and providing high-quality learning experiences that reflect the unique needs and strengths of our students and communities, all within a faith-based framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fiscal Management: Oversee the responsible and transparent management of the board’s financial resources, ensuring accountability and efficient allocation;
  • Human Resources: Lead and develop a high-performing team of educational professionals, fostering a positive, faith-filled, and supportive work environment;
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, parishes, community partners, Indigenous communities, municipal governments, and other stakeholders;
  • Policy & Governance: Advise the Board of Trustees on policy development and ensure compliance with all relevant provincial legislation, regulations and policies;
  • Advocacy: Represent the board’s interests at the local, regional, and provincial levels, advocating for resources and policies that support student success and Catholic education; and
  • Indigenous Education: Demonstrate a deep commitment to and understanding of Indigenous education, working collaboratively with Indigenous communities to enhance outcomes for Indigenous students, respecting their cultures and traditions with a Catholic context.
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop, implement, and monitor the board’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with provincial priorities, the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations, and the unique needs of Northwestern Ontario communities;
  • Catholic Faith Leadership: Provide spiritual and educational leadership that promotes and preserves Catholic education, integrating faith into all aspects of the board’s operations and curriculum; and
  • Educational Excellence: Provide visionary leadership in curriculum development, instructional practices, assessment, and student achievement, promoting innovative and equitable learning experiences rooted in Catholic values.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification;
  • Successful completion of the supervisory officer’s qualifications;
  • Successful completion of, Religious Education Specialist (equivalency or commitment to completion of same or another approved program);
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the Catholic faith by actively integrating theological knowledge and moral principles into the daily life and mission of the parish community;
  • Extensive senior leadership experience within the Ontario publicly funded Catholic education system, including a minimum of 5-7 years at the Superintendent level or equivalent;
  • Outstanding leadership skills, demonstrated in a variety of positions of responsibility;
  • Ability to lead a diverse, inclusive, and high-performing team, displays courageous leadership and ability to drive accountability;
  • A high degree of integrity and demonstrated experience communicating complex and sensitive information to various stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current educational trends, best practices, and provincial legislation related to education;
  • Proven track record of improving student achievement and fostering inclusive learning environments;
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing large, complex budgets;
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build consensus and inspire others;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse communities, including Indigenous communities, and a commitment to Truth and Reconciliation;
  • Experience working in or a strong understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities of rural and northern education settings; and
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License is required for travel throughout the Board’s jurisdiction.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must undergo a successful Police Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • Successful Completion of all Safety training courses; and
  • The successful applicant is expected to work out of the Catholic Education Centre.
