Superintendent of Student Engagement & Learning (K-12)

Open To: Open Competition – Develop Talent Pool (External & Internal candidates)
Job Location: Catholic Education Centre, 46 Alliance Blvd., Barrie, Ontario
Position Type / Hours: Full-Time Permanent. Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, 35 hours weekly, plus overtime as required
Annual Compensation: $163, 557 to $216,128 commensurate with experience

Based in our Academic Services headquarters in Barrie, Ontario, the position is responsible for providing Catholic faith-filled leadership. Working as a member of the Education Leadership Council (ELC) team, the successful candidate will assist in setting strategic and operational directions for the Board, while providing inspirational and proactive leadership to staff. Successful applicants will be added to a pool of candidates for potential appointments to the role of Superintendent of Student Engagement & Learning (K-12). If not appointed within two (2) years of selection for the pool, the candidate must re-apply.

The position will require the successful candidate to:
Work in a constructive and active leadership role as a member of the Education Leadership Council (ELC) managing all aspects of the assigned community of schools and central portfolios.
Demonstrate knowledge and board leadership experience with Catholic K-12 curriculum, ministry initiatives and strategic priorities as outlined in the Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan.
Manage system budgets, ensuring due diligence, fiscal accountability, and transparency.
Prepare and submit reports and recommendations as requested by the Director of Education.
Participate in labour and employee relations matters, such as Labour-Management Committees (LMC), collective bargaining, mediation and arbitration, as required.
Represent the Board with relevant community agencies/partners; and serve as a resource to appropriate Board committees, as required.
Proactively and positively respond to and resolve highly sensitive issues on behalf of the Board using constructive conflict resolution skills.
Be responsible for the development and implementation of portfolio-specific policies and procedures to ensure continuous improvement of services.
Provide program analysis using effective and efficient research and planning principles.
Consistently demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Responsible to the Minister of Education for ensuring that ministry policies are carried out by the Board.
Responsible to the Board for carrying out the duties assigned to them.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experiences to the role:
Ontario Supervisory Officer Qualifications in accordance with The Ontario College of Teachers Act (1996) Regulation 176/10 required. Completion of course work preferred and practicum can be in progress.
Certified Specialist in Religious Education.
Current Pastoral Letter of Reference.
Minimum of 5 years Principal leadership experience (or equivalent) in a Catholic educational environment with preferred experience in both the elementary and secondary panels.
Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate the tenets of Catholic teachings, legislative requirements and responsibilities under The Ontario Human Rights Code.
Superintendents need to possess the knowledge, skills and solution focused attitudes needed to function effectively and proactively in an increasingly complex environment.
Demonstrate understanding of culturally relevant and responsive practices and principles particularly as it relates to equity seeking groups.
Proven experience in dealing constructively with a variety of leadership, supervisory, employee and labour relations matters.
Expertise working constructively with parents/guardians, child advocates, and government officials.
Ability to recommend and coordinate system priorities to align with board priorities, government initiatives and legislative requirements.
Proven experience in leading large teams, providing ongoing supervision and support to staff using humanistic and collaborative principles.
Superior interpersonal skills exhibiting confidentiality, diplomacy, negotiation, conflict resolution, and issue-based problem-solving techniques.
Strong budgetary and financial accountability skills.
Excellent communication, presentation, and technology skills.

The ability to provide reliable transportation, at the employee’s own expense, across the school district.
