The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board is inviting internal and external applications for its Superintendent of Education pool.
SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION
DESCRIPTION: The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB) is a Christ centred school system that provides excellence in Catholic education to approximately 30,000 students in 56 elementary and secondary schools and 4 Adult and Continuing Education centres throughout the region. The successful candidate(s) will demonstrate a strong commitment to the Board’s Mission to, “enable all learners to realize the fullness of humanity of which Our Lord Jesus Christ is the model.” The candidate(s) will provide visionary and transformational leadership at the system level working collaboratively with fellow members of Senior Administration and school throughout the system. The candidate(s) will be an active member of Director’s Council and support implementation and monitoring of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan and the Board Student Achievement Plan. The position involves central portfolio responsibilities as well as monitoring and supporting student faith formation, achievement and well-being within a Family of Schools.
Qualifications
- Active member of their Catholic parish with a commitment to, “place Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church at the centre” of their service to Catholic education;
- Ontario College of Teachers Certification of Registration and Certificate of Qualifications;
- Ontario Supervisory Officers Qualification;
- Special Education Specialist Qualifications and/or Special Education for Administrators Additional Qualification course by the end of the 2nd year of appointment; and,
- Visionary and transformational leadership and professional qualities gained through a minimum of five years of experience as a Catholic principal.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Successful candidates will have demonstrated leadership expertise in the following areas:
- Discerning the signs of the times in the context of publicly funded Catholic education;
- A deep commitment to honouring the dignity of each person especially the most vulnerable and marginalized;
- Supporting school and system Catholic leadership development;
- Complying with and implementing strategic directions; enhancing community partnerships; and inspiring principals, vice-principals, teachers and other system staff;
- Implementing and complying with Board policies, Government of Ontario Legislation; the Education Statutes and Regulations of Ontario; and Ministry of Education Guidelines;
- Committing to staff/student well-being and Catholic faith formation;
- Excellent interpersonal communication, time-management and organizational skills;
- A demonstrated ability to collaborate as a committed and contributing member of a cohesive, mission-driven Senior Administration team;
- Promoting good stewardship through the ethical, careful and responsible management of the resources entrusted to the Board; and,
- Empowering staff and promoting shared leadership.
Applications shall be accompanied by:
- A complete curriculum vitae providing evidence of the required qualifications;
- A statement (1-2 pages) of philosophy of Catholic Education which outlines experiences and examples of personal commitment to Catholic faith and witness;
- Completion of Religious Renewal (or similar process if external to the Board);
- A current written Pastoral Letter of Reference from the applicant’s present Pastor;
- A current written professional reference from the applicant’s immediate supervisor; and,
- The names, addresses, telephone numbers and consent to contact two additional references from the applicant’s current or previous work environment.
Salary Range: As identified in the HWCDSB Executive Compensation Framework
Location – Father Kennedy Catholic Education Centre
Effective Date of Appointment – Successful candidates will be appointed to a Superintendent of Education Pool. Appointment to the role of Superintendent of Education will be subject to the needs of Board.
