The Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board (BGCDSB) is seeking an exceptional Catholic leader for the role of Director of Education and Secretary to the Board of Trustees. BGCDSB is a progressive and fiscally responsible Board serving the educational needs of approximately 4,400 students in eleven elementary and two secondary schools across Bruce and Grey counties. Our Catholic Education Centre is located in Hanover Ontario, situated two hours northwest of Toronto, along the eastern shore of Lake Huron and southern Georgian Bay. The diverse and scenic counties of Bruce and Grey offer year-round outdoor family and individual activities.

The Board has distinguished itself with a true focus on student achievement, well-being, innovative learning experiences, and has been recognized with various awards at the school, principal and supervisory officer levels.

Our successful candidate will possess the requisite qualifications (per the Education Act), and will have an excellent record as a progressive, inclusive, critical and creative thinking Catholic educator. The successful candidate will also be a dynamic leader who is innovative and who will work to advance the Board’s mission, vision and values with a keen focus on the work of our multi-year Strategic Plan.

The role of Director of Education with BGCDSB further requires candidates to be a practicing Catholic who has demonstrated commitment to the mission and ministry of Catholic education, and a leader committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion for student achievement and well-being, with a trauma-informed, anti-oppression and equity lens. The successful candidate will be an open and effective communicator with the ability to build and maintain strong positive relationships with staff, stakeholders, and community members.

Role of the Executive Director:

The Executive Director acts as the administrative officer, secretary, and treasurer of the Board by:

Administrative and Secretary Responsibilities:

  1. Interpreting and applying the Board's By-Laws and Policies
  2. Attending Board, Executive Council, and other meetings as required
  3. Planning meeting agendas with the sitting President or the Executive Council (as required)
  4. Ensuring all notices of Association meetings are sent
  5. Taking and preparing accurate minutes of all proceedings of the Association and distribution of same
  6. Being responsible for all of the Board’s correspondence
  7. Keeping the Board informed about the affairs of the Association
  8. Planning programs and services based on the Board’s priorities and the Strategic Plan of the Association
  9. Where possible, representing CASSA by attending National Committee Meetings with organizations or groups that align with the Board's Strategic Plan
  10. Meeting with and supporting Provincial and Territorial Superintendents' or Directors' Associations, Executive Directors or CEO's
  11. Have final approval over the Associations Summer Conference Agenda and structure

 

Financial Responsibilities:

  1. Making sure all monies paid to the Association are deposited in a chartered bank or trust company chosen by the Board
  2. Ensuring all annual membership fees are invoiced, collected, and deposited
  3. Preparing a detailed account of revenues and expenditures that is presented at meetings of the Board
  4. Maintaining the Association’s accounting and financial records, general ledgers, correspondence, contracts, and historical records
  5. Review the Professional Learning Committee's proposed budgets and make recommendations to the Board
  6. Preparing budgets for Board approval

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) provides excellence in Catholic education for over 13,000 students in 39 elementary and 10 secondary schools across a variety of diverse urban and rural communities in the beautiful Eastern Ontario counties of Dundas, Glengarry, Grenville, Lanark, Leeds, Prescott, Russell and Stormont.

The Board is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced professional as Superintendent of School Effectiveness to join its senior team. Reporting to the Director of Education, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing CDSBEO’s mission, multi-year strategic plan, and the ministry of Catholic Education while promoting equity, student achievement and well-being.

In this role, the Superintendent of School Effectiveness will lead and oversee all aspects of an assigned system-level portfolio, including staff supervision, fiscal accountability, and direct supervision of a K- 12 family of schools, as well as other important system/leadership responsibilities assigned by the Director to support the strategic objectives and success of CDSBEO. Providing program analysis, and development through the effective use of data, excellent research skills and project management will be key.

The ideal candidate will possess a Supervisory Officer Certificate (or be eligible to obtain this within two years of appointment), along with several years of proven leadership experience in Catholic Education. They will have a demonstrated track-record of leadership, strategic and innovative thinking, planning and implementation skills, as well as excellent organizational, decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills utilizing a highly collaborative, collegial, authentic, servant- leadership approach to working with others.
