DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION & SECRETARY OF THE BOARD
The Sudbury Catholic School Board invites applications for the position of Director of Education & Secretary of the Board. We are seeking a visionary, people-focused Catholic leader to guide our growing and innovative school system. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in education, faith formation, and student success. The start date will be July 1, 2025, or another mutually agreeable date to be negotiated in consultation with the Board.

About Our Board
Located in northeastern Ontario at the crossroads of three major highways, our Board serves a diverse and vibrant community, that spans urban, suburban, rural, and scenic wilderness areas. Our system includes 12 elementary schools, 4 Grade 7-12 schools, and 1 adult learning centre, supported by a dedicated team of over 1,000 full-time and part-time staff members serving more than 6,900 students. With an annual budget of $128 million, we are committed to providing an inclusive, faith-based learning environment that empowers and inspires our students to excel in a changing world.

The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the Director of Education provides strategic leadership to advance our mission: to nurture and develop each student’s mind, body, and spirit within an inclusive Catholic learning community. The successful candidate will champion high quality education, student achievement, well-being, equity, and system-wide effectiveness while strengthening relationships with staff, parishes, families, and community partners.

Key Responsibilities
 Advance the implementation of the muti-year strategic plan.
 Maintaining an effective organization with programs and services that uphold the Board’s policies.
 Provide strategic leadership to a dedicated and skilled senior administrative team, ensuring alignment with the Board of Trustees' expectations.
 Submit timely, accurate and comprehensive monitoring reports to the Board of Trustees, addressing relevant policies.
 Ensure compliance with Ontario’s Education Act and Ministry of Education policies.
 Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for students and staff while promoting staff development, well-being, and a positive
workplace culture.
 Build and maintain strong relationships with trustees, staff, parents, and community partners.
 Navigate governance structures effectively, ensuring adherence to board policies and the role of trustee.
 Oversee the Board’s business, operational functions, and financial planning with transparency, ensuring fiscal responsibility, effective resource
management, and public accountability.
 Support principals and administrators in effective school leadership.
 Utilize data-driven decision-making to improve student outcomes and system effectiveness.
 Lead innovation and change management to enhance educational excellence.

Qualifications & Attributes
 Master’s degree in education or equivalent.
 Ontario Supervisory Officer Qualifications (SOQP).
 Current, in-good- standing registration with the Ontario College of Teachers.
 Completion of Parts 1 & 2 of the Religious Education Additional Qualifications Program.
 Proven senior executive leadership experience in K-12 education.
 Deep commitment to student success, well-being, and equity in education.
 Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating confidentiality, diplomacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
 Outstanding oral, written and digital communication skills, including presentation proficiency.
 Strong ability to foster a culture of trust, accountability and excellence.
 In-depth understanding of the Ontario Education Act, Ministry of Education policies, and current curriculum standards.
 Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks including the Ontario Human Rights Code and Truth and Reconciliation recommendations.
 Extensive experience with education governance, policy implementation, budgeting, and finance.
 Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with developed political acuity.
